Our First Pumpkin Patch

It's time for our first ever pumpkin picking event!

“The pumpkin is a uniquely American plant, widely regarded as one of the most magical plants in all the world.”
― Seth Adam Smith, Rip Van Winkle and the Pumpkin Lantern

In early June we tilled, weeded, fertilized and prepped about an acre of ground and planted over 1,800 organic pumpkins. Through the summer we irrigated the plants, supplying over an inch of water each week to the growing vines, and pulled weeds every day - you have to when you don't use herbicides and pesticides! The pumpkins have proven to require much love and attention, but the labor has paid off and we have a patch brimming with beautiful pumpkins!

This week we'll be fencing around the pumpkin patch; we'd prefer if the deer didn't enjoy the patch before the crowds do.

On Saturday, August 31st from 8:00 - 11:00 AM we will hold a "soft opening" for about 30 lucky people! Slots are already filling up so be sure to reserve your ticket today at www.thetidewaterfarm.com under the events tab.
